Life can sometimes be quite challenging and throw up all sorts of dilemmas; counselling can be very helpful during these difficult times. I feel many of us need assistance or support at some point in our lives and sometimes speaking to friends or family may not be enough as they may be too personally involved with us. It is during these times I am able to support you through counselling.
Painful experiences from the past, difficulties in the present and fears about the future may hinder our ability to find and achieve satisfaction. Counselling can help people with feelings of loneliness, confidence issues, anger management, relationship problems, addiction, loss and bereavement and many other dilemmas that we face in life.
How I work
I work from the Integrative Counselling model which involves combining more than one therapy approach, it is a holistic approach tailored to your own individual needs. I feel this works as we are all different so I look at what would suit you best by discussing this with you during the session. My counselling approach includes ‘Cognitive Behavioural Therapy’ and Person Centred Counselling.
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. CBT looks at how we think about a situation and how this affects the way we act as our actions can affect how we think and feel. This form of therapy has a high success rate and is used by the NHS.
I also feel to deal with an issue you need to get to the core of the problem and that is where I bring in ‘Person Centred Therapy’ this is about building a safe and empathic non-judgemental relationship with you so you feel safe in opening up and exploring where your issues have come from in doing so it can help you to move forward with life in a more positive way
I also have ‘An Advance Certificate in Life Coaching’ so I am able to use these skills to assist the client in having a more positive and healthier future.
Clients see me in therapy for many reasons including:
Anxiety, Depression, Low Self Esteem Bereavement and Loss, Anger Issues, Stress, Relationship Issues, Body image, Sexuality, Eating disorders, OCD, Addictions, Phobias, Self-harm, Abuse, Post-traumatic stress, Personal development, Health related issues, Women’s issues, Redundancy, Work related issues and many other life situations
Some client’s issues are personal to them and affecting the individual in moving on, this could be for a variety of reasons such as life changes, depression, anxiety, anger issues, OCD etc. We will explore your issues together, every client is different so I will work in a way that is centred round your uniqueness.
Some couples can reach a stage in their relationship where issues begin to arise, this may be for a variety of reasons such as Communication Problems, Intimacy Issues, Trust difficulties, Concerns round step/blended families etc. By talking through these concerns with someone that will remain non-judgmental and impartial, it can support you in ways of how to deal with the dilemmas you are experiencing and so hopefully help the relationship move on.
